Sanatana Dharma' is that which is created and spread by the Lord (Paramatmana tanoti, visvaram, prasaram gachati iti). The Vedic scriptures which are the breath of Paramatma are the source and foundation of Sanatana Dharma.
Sanatana Dharma has not been created by an individual. As a result, one cannot find any shortcomings, prejudices and egoistic qualities of human beings in it. This Dharma is truly beyond the concepts of time, country, caste, religion, ancestry and other divisive ideas. Sanatah Dharma encompasses not just human beings but the entirety of creation. The main concern of this Dharma is the well being of All, from Brahmaji to a single blade of grass. Its purpose is to provide relief to all the grief that is found in the world and reveal the unity in the universe. Specifically, Sanatan Dharma exlains that the Lord is present in every living being and every particle of creation.
Just because Sanatana Dharma is philosophical in nature, it does not mean that it is not applicable to one's day to day life. On the contrary, this Dharma wants you to achieve the highest possible in this life or here after. It describes a 'sadhana' or means to achieve this end. Towards this goal, it has pointed to the four Purusharthas or endeavors, specifically: Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. In these Purusharthas lie the discipline and methodology for avoiding hurdles and attaining individual happiness while maintaining the well being of creation. In summary, the greatness of Sanatana Dharma can be found in the following two declarations:
Sarve jana he sukhino bhavantu (Let everyone be very happy)
Kruvanto Vishwamaryami (Strive to make this world prosper)
