Spotlight on Sankara Eye Foundation - NPO eradicating curable blindness
Today in spotlight is Sankara Eye FOundation (SEF), whose vision is to eradicate curable blindness in India by the year 2020.
They initiate and drive community eye care activities in India by working with eye care organisations such as Sankara Eye Care Institutions, which runs the Sankara Eye Hospital in Coimbatore.
The majority of our fundraising effort is achieved through fundraising events, booths in major events, advertising and working with major donors.
Through these fundraising efforts, SEF, USA has played a significant role in increasing the number of free surgeries thirteen fold to 105,396 in 2009.
They reach out to the rural poor and provide quality eye care free of cost to the needy by building operationally self-sufficient super specialty eye care hospitals across India. Sankara Eye Care Institutions (SECI) manage 8 hospitals providing 99% success rate for cataract surgeries and projected to perform more than 100,000 free eye surgeries in 2009.
The video outlines their mission, programs, how do they run and achievements over the past decade. For more information visit http://bayareadesi.com/indian-business/sankara-eye-foundation-usa-milpitas
